Welcome to The Law Office of Mark Rodiles-Peterson, Esq.
Our firm strives to provide high quality and effective estate planning services to clients throughout the Bay Area. Whether you are just starting a family or you are planning your retirement, estate planning should be an essential part of your thought process. Proper estate planning allows you to make important decisions about your children, your finances, and your property.
Depending on your family and financial situation, estate planning can include documents that determine who will inherit your property, care for your children, and make important financial and health care decisions on your behalf.
Establishing an estate plan is not something you should put off for a later time. We often hear from clients that they thought about contacting our firm for months, if not years, before reaching out to us. We encourage clients to think about estate planning as something that is going to happen one way or another. Doing nothing can have significant and expensive consequences.
Proactive estate planning includes setting up wills, trusts, powers of attorney and property transfer documents (depending on your situation). Having a properly drafted estate plan will give your family structure during an already difficult time and guide your loved ones regarding your wishes.
The estate planning process
The estate planning process can seem daunting and sometimes intimidating to most clients. At the Law Office of Mark Rodiles-Peterson we focus on making your experience in planning your estate smooth, structured, and clear. In fact, the most common feedback we receive from clients is that the process is much easier and faster then they initially anticipated. Below we offer a brief summary of the process of completing a comprehensive estate plan. Probate and trust administrations follow a different process. Our firm strives to make your case as manageable and streamlined.
Comprehensive Estate Plan
|
TIme frame
The process can take around 2-6 weeks to complete. This depends on how quickly the client can review the documents and provide our attorney with the information he needs to draft the documents properly.
In some circumstances, our attorney can help clients who are in need of immediate document preparation, such as when there is a medical emergency. Signing & NotarizationWhen the documents are ready to be signed and no further revisions are needed, our attorney will meet with the client to sign and notarize each document.
Final Steps
After the documents are fully executed, there are a number of steps that need to be taken in order to make sure that the documents are functional.
Once everything is in order, you will receive your estate planning documents in a hard-cover binder that allows you to maintain all of your important documents in one place.
